Your monitor must be set to a minimum resolution of 800 × 600. We recommend a minimum of 256 colours and (for Windows users) a Small Fonts setting.
Windows users can check their settings by right-clicking on the desktop, clicking Properties, and then clicking the Settings tab.
Macintosh users can check their settings by clicking the Apple symbol at the top left of the screen, pointing to Control Panels, and then clicking Monitors.
Operating systems
The Parlianet database has been tested with Web browsers running under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 9.2 and Mac OS X 10.4.
In theory, you should be able to use the Parlianet service with Web browsers running under Unix, Linux or any other operating system for which the recommended browsers are available. However, we have not tested this, and our Help Desk cannot provide support for problems related to operating systems other than 32-bit Windows and Mac OS.
Web browsers
The Parlianet service allows you to access the Parlianet database via the Internet, using a standard Web browser. However, Web browsers do not include all of the functionality that is required for a feature-rich search and display system, and so Justis Publishing provides the missing functions via software that runs on our Web server and generates HTML that is sent to the customer’s browser. Some Web browsers are more amenable than others to this technology, and so there is no simple answer to the question “Which Web browser should I use?”.
Microsoft Windows
The versions under which we test Web browsers are Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
* Opera must be set to “Identify as Internet Explorer”; select “Quick preferences” on the Opera menu.
You can check the version of your Web browser by clicking its application menu and selecting the “About” item.
Macintosh OS 9.2
The only version of Mac OS 9 under which we have tested Web browsers with the Parlianet service is Mac OS 9.2.2. Other versions of the operating system may be suitable, but have not been tested.
