Additional Services

In addition to the main Parlianet database you will have access to the following services:

Bills before Parliament

This area of the service provides a daily update of primary legislation as it makes its way through all the institutions of the UK which have the power to make such legislation, that is Westminster (both the Commons and the Lords), the Scottish Parliament and the new Northern Ireland Assembly.

The Bills before Parliament section has a number of benefits over the House of Commons Weekly Information Bulletin, which provides information regarding the proceedings of the passage of Bills through Westminster for the week ahead. The principal advantages of the Bills before Parliament section are currency and coverage:

  • Updated on a daily basis, using the proceedings of Parliament as reported by Hansard, on the day that Hansard is posted on the Web.
  • Contains every Bill for all the devolved administrations while the Weekly Information Bulletin only covers the Bills introduced by Westminster.
  • Includes draft Bills from Westminster and proposed Bills from the Scottish Parliament.
  • Gives you a breakdown of the history of the Bill from when it was first introduced to when it either receives Royal Assent or when it fails.
  Type of Bill:  Government Bill
Legislature:  UK
House:  House of Commons
Sponsored by:  Jack Straw

The government will introduce a bill that will allow a free vote on the contentious issue of hunting with dogs, including fox hunting. Three options will be presented to MPs: a total ban, a compulsory regulatory system or a voluntary system of regulation.

Along with a brief description of the proposed legislation and the member sponsoring or supporting the Bill, we seek to provide a complete service dedicated to the process of primary legislation.

Once you’ve logged on, you can find the Bills before Parliament section under "Additional Services" in the left-hand navigation.

This is only available to Parlianet subscribers (to subscribe click here).
